Steady and I have always said that ours is an "uncommon love." Even many years ago before there was as much spiritual emphasis on marriage, we felt we had been particularly blessed by the Lord. In the beginning, we probably did not even know that it was HIS grace hovering over us.
HE has shown us how to love. HE has shown us how to forgive, how to not hold grudges, how to be kind, how to be open to criticism when wrong, how to honor each other in private and in public. HE has given us patience with each other and with our circumstances. He has shown us that “His grace is sufficient” when things are tough. I am especially referring to when Steady had the brain tumor and later the carcinoid tumor. Sickness can be a drain on any marriage. I don’t see how couples go through ANY trial in marriage without staying under those beautiful outstretched arms of our Savior.
Now that we are in our seventies, we are enjoying the “autumn” of our lives. Things have slowed down… schedules, as well as physical bodies! But what a precious time this is. Now, more than ever, we find ways to encourage each other, to listen to each other, to just sit quietly in a room and enjoy the presence of our spouse. What does tomorrow hold? We don’t know….. BUT we know Who holds tomorrow. And, HE is more than able to handle Barbara and Steady Cash.
